Projection Weld Nut

These nuts have specific bumps or nibs of excess metal, that are designed to be welding points of the nut to a surface. Welding this way uses higher heat and produces cosmetically cleaner welds without metal discoloration and stronger welds. This type of weld nut is used with materials more than .035 inches thick.

Spot Weld Nut

These nuts are welded through a very concentrated application of current and pressure. This nut is generally cheaper and better in tight quarters than projection welding. Its drawbacks are the weld is weaker and it sometimes discolors the metal. This type of weld nut is used with materials less than 0.035 inches thick.
