Sanitation
The leaves are changing and the air is getting crisp -- time to make sure your business is prepared for the cooler months ahead. A little preventive maintenance will make your business more energy efficient during winter while helping you avoid potential damage, injuries, and illness.
HVAC Maintenance
- Check the heating system. If you have a system fueled by gas or oil, make sure to check the pilot light and burners
- Replace air filters
- Clean ducts in the heating system; dust build-up in ducts is a major cause of indoor pollutants and increases the possibility of illness
Indoor Preparation
- Test fire and smoke alarms as well as carbon monoxide detectors
- Check all weather stripping around windows and all fasteners
- Insulate pipes
Outdoor Preparation
- Remove excess leaves and damaged branches surrounding the facility
- Remove all debris from the gutters
- Inspect the roof
- Inspect exterior walls and windowsills for damage such as cracks, gaps, and loose or crumbling mortar -- if necessary, caulk exterior joints around windows and doors
- Repair broken steps and secure loose banisters
- Outside faucets should be shut down
